  3. Transparency: AI systems should be transparent in their design and operations. The decision-making processes of AI should be understandable to users and affected parties.
  4. Accountability and Responsibility: AI developers and users should be accountable for their systems' impacts. There should be clear frameworks for accountability and policies that outline responsibilities when deploying AI systems.  
  5. Privacy and Data Protection: AI must respect individuals' privacy and ensure that personal data is collected, stored, and used securely and ethically.  
  6. Safety and Security: AI systems should be robust, secure, and safe throughout their lifecycle. They should be designed to prevent misuse and mitigate potential risks (Robustness, security and safety (Principle 1.4), n.d).  
  7. Human Control of Technology: AI should enhance human capabilities and decisions rather than replace human judgment. Human oversight should be integral to AI systems, especially in critical areas.  

Recommendations for Policymakers

  1. Regulatory Frameworks: Establish and enforce comprehensive regulatory frameworks that ensure AI technologies comply with human rights standards and ethical principles, including laws on data protection, non-discrimination, and transparency.
  2. Ethical Guidelines and Standards: Develop national and international ethical guidelines and standards for AI in collaboration with global organizations and other countries.  
  3. Funding for Ethical AI Research: Support and fund research focused on ethical AI and mitigating risks associated with AI technologies.  
  4. Public Awareness and Education: Promote public awareness and understanding of AI, its benefits, and its risks. Implement educational programs to equip citizens with knowledge about AI and their rights.  
  5. Inclusive Policymaking: Engage a wide range of stakeholders, including marginalized communities, in the policymaking process to ensure that diverse perspectives are considered.
